IHG Trims Share Count With Latest London Stock Exchange Buyback

Oct 12, 2026 Stock

InterContinental Hotels Group has continued its strategy of reducing outstanding equity, announcing the repurchase of nearly 45,000 ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange. Executed on October 9 through Goldman Sachs International, the buyback saw the hospitality giant acquire 44,953 shares at an average price of approximately 159.38 dollars per share.

The transactions took place within a tight pricing window, with costs fluctuating between a low of 158.10 dollars and a high of 160 dollars. This move follows specific authorizations granted during the company’s annual general meeting last year and aligns with operational instructions issued earlier in February to manage their share capital.

Rather than holding these assets as treasury stock, IHG confirmed its intention to cancel the purchased shares entirely. By removing these shares from circulation, the company effectively reduces its total share count, which often serves as a signal of confidence to investors by increasing the proportional ownership stake of remaining shareholders.

Following this latest round of activity, IHG reports that it now has over 147 million ordinary shares currently in issue. When accounting for those already held in treasury, the company continues to fine tune its balance sheet as part of a broader long term fiscal approach.
